Here it is! Another thoughtful Mama has tivo'd the commercial for tonight's episode of Supernanny and has saved me from having to watch anymore of ABC's daytime programming.
So, now that I've watched it, I'm way more offended than I thought I'd be. I mean, God fobid a woman be breastfeeding her 14-month old. (rolling eyes) This is clearly the cause of all evil in the world. (rolling eyes again)
I'll be watching tonight's episode and then writing a letter to ABC telling them that they've lost my viewership. Period. I cannot believe that they would construe such ridiculousness as solid parenting advice.

The actual show wasn't as bad. Still annoyed me at parts (WHAT was the point of the bottle?! If you're weaning, you're weaning, not just changing from breast to bottle! WTF!), but Jo herself said it was the mother's choice to breastfeed or not, and that she'd help her either way. It was the mom who was unhappy, it seemed like.
Those previews always make it seem like so much worse than it is.
I thought the show was horrible actually - it made me cry. I can't believe they cold turkey weaned that little baby and did CIO all in a 6 day period. How awful.
I do agree that Jo said it was the mother's choice to continue breastfeeding, but Jo also made breastfeeding seem like it was the problem. Rather than the approach she took, she could have helped the mama to cut back on feedings a bit - or learn how to nurse in a carrier so she could still get things done, etc. IMO, that baby was not ready to wean yet and I also felt that the show disseminated bad information about BFing.
